Option #2- Weight Watchers
Yep, I would love to watch the weight fall off alright. So, I took a look at what Weight Watchers had to offer. I remember my mother starting this program in the 1970s. She was very successful at losing weight and she kept it off. Also, she learned about healthy eating, although we know a whole lot more now than we did then. The change was huge for our family because we didn't really eat foods that weren't fried in bacon grease, if you know what I mean. That wasn't about my mother being a bad cook. That was the way things were fixed in the South in the 1970s. I do miss the music... Okay-back on task!
There are some things other than nostalgia that I like about today's Weight Watchers program. There are some downsides, too, though. Let me just say again that I don't get paid by any of the weight loss programs, and it is important that you choose the one that (or none at all) that fit YOU best. There is my disclaimer.
The Good News:
**Online or in person meetings (or both)
**Recipes that I'm anxious to try (love to cook)
**Fitness is encourages (one of my goals)
**I can take the program into the future like my mother did
**Points system to keep me accountable
**Pretty graphics so that I can track my results-I need the encouragement
**Great website (I can appreciate this, of course)
Weight Watcher Cons for Me:
**I work most meeting days and can't make those (did I say I need encouragement? I do!)
**Point system to learn
**Fitness is mostly online and not really a big part of meetings-or so the website stated.
**Cost-not as much as some and yet affordable
**Have to cook your own food and figure how to work out the restaurant foods and the points system (this is a positive when you think about long term, though)
**The point system online requires time to address every food eaten and activity. The nutritional breakdown of the foods isn't a part of it, or at least I didn't find it yet. I use fitday.com right now and I can see how much fiber, vitamins, percentage of fat in foods... This is real useful, and I don't want to document things in Weight Watchers and fitday. So, this is something to think about. I've been using fitday.com for awhile, though, and I still have those last 15 pounds or so. Perhaps something completely new is in order.
So, Weight Watchers sounds pretty good to me right now. I'm not done looking though. I read The Zone by Barry Sears about 10 years ago and found it very interesting. I'll take a look at that program and get back with you in a day or two.
Anybody out there work with Weight Watchers or Nutrisytem? Those are the two I've studied up a little on so far. When I finish exploring this week, it'll be time to make a choice! I can't wait to get started. I've started eating healthier just contemplating the whole thing.
Weight Watchers is one of my choices. What did I choose?
