Natural High Blood Pressure Treatment

Natural High Blood Pressure Treatment

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease that can result in a serious and even fatal heart attack. Coronary artery disease is simply disease (usually plaque or some kind of a blockage)of the arteries that feed the heart muscle.

If you add on other risk factors such as obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, family history, inactivity and smoking the picture looks pretty gloomy!

The good news is that your blood pressure (and many of the other risks listed!) can be controlled. You have the power! Natural high blood pressure treatment is within reach.

Natural High Blood Pressure Treatment and Your Health Care Provider Your health care provider will get pretty aggressive with blood pressure treatment for you if you are otherwise healthy and have a blood pressure of >140/90.

If you have any heart conditions they will start aggressive a bit earlier. But, what can YOU do?

First and foremost, find out what your blood pressure normally runs. This means having it taken more than just once. One elevated blood pressure does not make hypertension. However, if it is up more than down or you have blurred vision, head-ache and other symptoms associated with high blood pressure you need to see your health care provider. It is a good idea to have your risk for heart disease evaluated. Your health care provider knows just what questions to ask and what to look for.

Prevention goes a long way, as always. What can you do?

Natural High Blood Pressure Treatment
What can you do to prevent and treat this deadly condition?

1. Maintain a healthy weight

2. Keep your cholesterol in check. Don't know what your cholesterol is? See you health care provider. A simple blood test will tell you so much!

3. Get screened for diabetes and limit your processed sugar intake. This means to avoid foods prepared with white sugar and other processed foods. Stick to the fresh foods as much as possible. Take a look at my favorite healing foods for some great ideas.

4. Get moving!

5. Get some help to stop smoking

6. Do you have a lot of changes to make? Pick one at a time, make it a habit Limit your sugar, for instance. This will help you lose weight. Then add a little walking to your lifestyle. Make walking a habit and then cut down on smoking... Too many big changes at one time will set you up for failure. These are life and death changes and you really don't want to fail!

7. Increase your fiber and omega 3 fatty acids to help your heart. This may not lower your blood pressure directly, but it is good for your heart. Protecting your heart is your goal.

8. The data supporting natural supplements for high blood pressure is mixed: sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes neutral. Good studies are hard to come by. There is some data for supplements that show a decline in blood pressure, but they don't show that the supplements ultimately improve the risk of heart disease.

9. Some people may benefit from certain supplements in addition to their prescribed blood pressure medicine. Calcium for people who don't eat enough calcium in their diet is probably helpful. Some African Americans may benefit from additional potassium. Your health care provider can check your blood levels of potassium to know if you would benefit. If you don't like fish, fish oil supplements may help you. Flavanoids are also helpful. (see below for more information about flavanoids. You won' t want to miss this!)

10. Knowledge is power: know your numbers (blood pressure, weight, cholesterol (lipids) and blood sugar) and then take the appropriate steps to improve on them. Improvement to one will impact the other-that's a beautiful thing. Losing weight may help to lower your cholesterol and blood sugar AND blood pressure. Putting down the cigarettes can also save your life. I could go on and on. Hey, I have! Take a look at some of the other pages on this site or the table of contents page to get some more ideas.

Control high blood pressure naturally AND if needed, take the medications that your health care provider recommends.

I saved the best for last.
My favorite natural high blood pressure treatment:

What is a flavanoid?

Flavanoids relax and dilate your blood vessels. If you have blood pressure or hardening of the arteries or plaque from too much cholesterol, more blood will get through. This makes it a favorite natural high blood pressure treatment! Flavanoids seem to work best in people over 50! Where can you find these flavanoids?

Dark chocolate Wine Black Tea Dark Grape Juice

Remember moderation! If you or your loved one suffers with erectile dysfunction (ED) you'll want to remember to get enough flavanoids.
