My Retreat
It has been a long time since my husband and I have taken some time off work. We've taken a few long week-ends and even a four day stretch calling the time a 'stay-cation." Although the idea of a stay-cation sounded great to begin with (rest at home, quiet, low cost...) it didn't turn out to be relaxing. I could always find something that just couldn't wait to get done which meant that I had very little time to relax peacefully.
Ah, enter in some frequent flyer miles, a beautiful condo on the beach in Maui, a conference with Wayne Dyer, friends and well, you can probably see how this turns out!
True Confessions
In full disclosure, I've been burning the candle at both ends. Here I write about health and nutrition and rest and stress resistance-all the while, just taking the time to write so many pages while working full time exhausted me. Add to this that I started my own practice about 10 months ago. Long hours and commutes left me with about an extra 15 pounds of fat on my body, dark circles around my eyes and a feeling that I must certainly be walking down the wrong path.
This summer, I went to a conference where I met up with my very good friend Ines. What a time we had catching up AND enjoying a conference put on the American Holistic Nurses Assocation. I met other nurses doing work a lot like mine and yet taking that extra step to go out on their own all the while taking care of themselves. Hey-this is what I wanted for myself! I've been making this happen and just opened Georgetown Integrative Health! I also decided it was time for a little rest and relaxation before I embark fully on my new venture. This is kind of an excuse for a vacation, though, because my new venture will be less drama and trauma then before, but still...
Booked some Frequent Flyer Miles
Arranged to spend some time in my all time favorite place: Pikaki condo in Honokawai, Maui Hawaii. Ah, I can't say enough about this place! I'm going to devote a whole page just to this!
Read about the Pikake, see some photos and learn the very simple things I did to take care of myself
The First Day
I arrived on a Friday evening. I barely got to the condo in time to see the sunset. It was a beauty, too!
And then the Moon came out...
How could I not possibly be absolutely delighted! Jet lag was no longer an issue. The beauty was breath-taking.
The Wayne Dyer Conference Mastering the Art of Manifestation
I have followed Wayne Dyer, through the years-from the time his writings were more psychologically based and as he progressed along the spiritual path. I listened to the recordings of his seminars as I drove around. His words resonated with me, and I can say that I believe my life was changed for the best. His week-end conference was different than I expected, but still very good. I was delighted when my colleage, Pam McDonald, NP, spoke about her work with regard to the APO-E Diet. I learned from Pam and will soon be doing her work. I'll write more about this soon. I also got to spend time with other new friends and others who share my passion for health promotion, healing and preventing terrible diseases.
It was a wonderfully uplifting week-end! This is probably an understatement!
