Flu Symptoms
Flu season is here! If you think you may have the flu (or have flu symptoms), there are things you can do to feel better.
The sooner you get treatment, the better, of course. There are anti-viral medicines you can take, but they won't help you if you start them more than 48 hours after experiencing flu symptoms. So, it is good to know what some flu symptoms are.
It is sometimes difficult to know if you've got the flu or a bad cold. Both are viral, afterall. If you've ever had the flu, though, you KNOW the difference.
So, what are some symptoms of the flu and how are they different from a cold?
Flu Symptoms
Fever & Chills-You will probably have a fever with the flu, but not so much with a cold. In fact, the fever often comes on kind of suddenly.
Feeling Tired-The fatigue (tiredness) you feel with the flu can sometimes be debilitating. People often don't want to get out of bed, even. You might feel tired with a cold, but not quite so much.
Onset- When you get a cold, your symptoms usually come on kind of gradually. You might start with a sore throat or runny nose and then a cough may come on in a few days. Flu symptoms come on kind of quick-usually in about 3-6 hours.
Nose symptoms-A stuffy nose is more common with a cold and a runny nose is more common with the flu. You can have a runny nose with a cold, also.
Sore Throat-A sore throat is common with a cold, and usually passes in a day or two. Flu symptoms usually don't include a sore throat.
Body Aches-The body aches with the flu can be pretty severe. You might have body aches when you get a cold, but they are more severe with the flu.
Cough-The cough associated with the flu is usually dry, and the cough with the cold is kind of hacking with phlegm. The flu cough can cause more chest tightness than the 'cold' cough.
Head-ache-Sinus head-aches are kind of common with the cold. One of the more common flu symptoms is severe head-ache.
