Natural Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Treatment

Natural Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Treatment

Television advertisements have made the dreaded erectile dysfunction (ED) a common topic. 50% of men aged 40-70 and 70% of men older than 70 years old will experience ED. ED is the inability to attain an erection sufficient for sexual activity.

What Causes ED?

**Hormone problems (low testosterone)

**Trauma-ouch! Maybe that bicycle seat doesn't feel quite right

**Alcohol use

**Some prescription drugs

**Obesity

**Nitric oxide in your body caused by vascular disease

**Certain diseases/conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and other underlying issues

Erectile Dysfunction

In order to understand ED, it is important to understand a little bit about what causes an erection.

Basically, blood flows into the vessels of the penis which causes hardening (a good thing in this case) of the arteries in the penis. If there is too much relaxation, things stay soft (not a good thing!). As the blood continues to flow, the erection remains strong. Receptors on the inside of the arteries get this going. This is where nitric oxide becomes so important.

Erectile Dysfunction: Can an Erection Problem be a Bigger Problem?

Yes, if you have problems with circulation in the penis, you may have problems with circulation in other parts of the body. ED is sometimes the first clue a man has that there are more serious problems going on.

Erectile Dysfunction: 8 Tips to Improve Your Sex Life

Erectile Dysfunction and Natural Medicines: Do they work?

Remember, consult a health care provider to determine the most effective, safe and appropriate dose for you. Keep in mind that the herbal remedies are not like some of the prescription medications that you can take as needed. Most of these are taken reguarly for the maximum benefit when you need it.

* DHEA The ability and quality of orgasm might improve, along with overall sexual satisfaction. Sounds good? You'll need to take this for 24 weeks. If you have ED because of diabetes or neurological problems, it may not help. DHEA is probably safe so long as it is used in lower doses and short term. Studies have done for up to about 12 months, so not a lot is known about doses taken longer than that. DHEA is a natural substance in the body, but it can still interact with certain medications and herbs.

* GINSENG, PANAX may be effective for erectile dysfunction. It appears safe so long as doses aren't too big and if not taken long term.

* L-ARGININE Erectile dysfunction seems to be effecive in high doses (5 grams a day). It is probably even more helpful to add 40mg of pycnogenol three times a day. It seems the two work better than just one. There isn't a lot of research done on this yet, so scientist are just not sure if this is really helpful or not.

* Yohimbe may also be effective for erectile dysfunction caused by a variety of problems. Usual dose is between 15 and 30 mg a day. Sometimes people think that taking a larger dose might give even better results, but taking higher doses of yohimbine (like many others) can make the side effects more likely and even worse. Some of these side effects are trembling, fast heart rate, high blood pressure, insomnia and head ache. Higher doses even make this worse. Don't take Yohimbe or other herbs for erectile dysfunction without the guidance of a health care professional.

* Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are effective prescription medications for erectile dysfunction. If you take nitrates (a class of medication used for some heart problems), always avoid viagra-type drugs. They can be very dangerous.

Erectile Dysfunction: What you can do next

1. Make an appointment with your health care provider AND keep it

2. Bring a list of all medications (prescription, over the counter and herbal remedies)

3. Be honest with your concerns and expectations

4. Be open, willing, but always listen to your body-report anything that just doesn't feel right

5. Do everything you can to have a healthy, holistic lifestyle-body, mind and spirit. I've made it easy for you! I did promise holistic living for the busy person after all.
Natural Erectile Dysfunction and Acunpuncture

Acupuncture is one of the more common medical procedures in the world. It has been around along time having originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. The bad news is that not a lot of scientific research has been done-relatively speaking. The good news is that more and more scientific research is being done that shows just how beneficial acupuncture can be.

Acupuncture describes a variety of procedures usually involving the placement of thin, solid, metallic needles into the skin. One purpose is to generate energy movement. I can't begin to do justice to acunpuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) but the belief is that physical symptoms are the result of energy not flowing well due to a blockage. Placement of acupuncture needles helps to get the energy flowing freely.

Does Acupuncture help with ED?

The jury is still out if you are hoping for some solid scientific research. Acupuncture has been used for many, many years for ED, but scientific evidence (real, hard science research) results are mixed. The risks are relatively low and the benefits can be great. Having needles placed in the skin (and yes, this can hurt for a very brief time) isn't something a lot of guys want to do. Hence, limited research and antectodal findings in the United States.
