The Cycle of Wellness
Which Direction Will You Go?

Cycle of Wellness:

I believe being aware of this cycle and how you can move toward health/wellness or dis-ease/illness can be life changing-optimal natural health. Self help motivation is key, and information can be very motivating.

Why? Because you can stop the direction at any time at any place along the way and move toward health/wellness. Remember that health is all about body, mind AND spirit-not just the body. I thought the image above was kind of cool, but it doesn't tell the whole story, of course. Optimal natural health is about holism.

The good news is that even little steps make a big difference. That's real good news since most of us are too busy for anything more than little steps. In fact, this is what Naturally-Holistic.net is all about-making little, but important changes. I know it isn't always easy, but even the busiest person can make little changes.

Let's begin the negative cycle (Remember you can start at any place along the way-body, mind or spirit.)

Holistic Wellness

Here is an example:

1. You have a few aches and pains. Afterall, you are ___ years old (you fill in the blank!), you are very busy doing ____ and you've been stressed out with ____. So, you buy a yoga tape or attend a yoga class with others. The stretching and breathing will help your body and your spirit-really kick that stress out.

2. Because you've got aches and pains, you decide to take a few days (okay, weeks) off from exercise. Maybe a walk once in awhile, but only if your doggie begs. Don't wait for the doggie to beg you.

Wellness Helpful Hint
Even a small walk is better than nothing at all. The more you move, the better you will feel. Exercise helps to release endorphins (happy hormones) and the more you move, the more you will want to. You've just got to get yourself moving-even a little bit. This is one place to start reversing the cycle.

3. The aches and pains get even worse, and it just feels so darn good to sit on the couch-so, you do.
If you even moved around a bit, you would feel better AND then, you can enjoy some quality couch time.

4. Suddenly, while you sit on the couch, you've got an intense hunger for junk food. You'll start exercising tomorrow, so a little junk food is okay.
Snacking is just fine, but a choice for something healthier is a lot better idea, and can turn the cycle around. Did you know that the food you eat can make or break your mood? It's true!

5. Weeks later you take a look in the mirror (okay, it was accidental) and realize that the junk food and no exercise has taken a toll on the view from behind! Oh, no. You make a note on your 'to do list': Replace defective mirror.
Save your money, and don't replace the mirror. That is probably not the real problem. You'll feel great if you are doing some healthy things for yourself. The mirror won't matter so much, because you know you're a work in progress and you are working hard.

Remember a big part of
happiness is a choice.

6. While driving to work, you feel so bad about the rear-end view you just caught and pull off for a quick 'feel good' snack. You'll be working real long hours today, anyway, so why not treat yourself a bit.

Working hard is never easy, but find healthy ways to treat yourself. I fall victim to this 'treat' myself attitude myself. I've learned to bring healthy treats with me, so I can avoid eating junk food from the machine. You can find lots of helpful hints on our Nutrition pages. There will certainly be something that speaks to you.

Alright- so you've got this particular cycle in your head, I'm sure. I've lived this, and I bet many of you have, also. There are always good reasons for what we do-whether they are negative or positive. The good news is that you can intervene at any place-the junk food, the exercise, or the low spirits- and get things moving in the positive direction. You'll find lots of easy ways to make little changes that make big differences on many of these webpages.

Begin wherever you like, one step at a time.
