Meditation Visualizations:
Keys to Optimal Natural Health

Meditation Visualizations:
Harness the power of meditation!

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a mental exercise for the spirit and the mind. We're all faced with stresses, and how we respond to those stresses is a key to optimal natural health. Meditation can be an oasis of peace and tranquility for you-no matter what chaos is going on around you. Meditation can help provide you with a healthier outlook, a healthier body, calmer feelings inside and out, a powerful immune system and lots and lots of joy.

The heart-mind-body-spirit (the holistic you) is more than each part separate. An optimal holistic lifestyle recognizes each component and the manner in which each component works synergistically. Meditation is a very key holistic practice. Fitness, health, self-concept, well-being, confidence, happiness, all originate from a 'whole you' perspective. Not one individual part will benefit you holistically like all the parts together. They are linked together. For more about the holistic concept, visit the naturally-holistic home page.

Meditation Visualizations

Does the word Meditation cause you some anxiety? Does the concept of trying to calm your mind seem like it will take too much time and energy and not worth it? Here are a few words of wisdom to take to heart:

If you hadn't worked out in months or years, would you expect your body to function at it's best right away?
Be as kind and gentle to your mind as you are to your body. If meditation is new to you, it will take some time to get the hang of it. The benefits out-weigh the effort.

Most of us have never taken formal classes in meditation. You don't have to do it alone. If you have problems, seek out classes, read books, listen to books on tape or recorded meditation classes, or watch DVDs/videos for some support.

Be kind to yourself and know that you are right where you are supposed to be.

It's all good. In 6 weeks, if you practice, you will master meditation. In 6 weeks, if you don't practice, you will be right where you are. This is what I think about when I start to give up. I have a post-it around my desk that asks: If you not, then who? If not now, then when? Mantras can help. Find one that speaks to your heart!

I'm going to give you a good over view of Meditation. Meditative Practices gives guidance for specific techniques.

Meditation Visualizations and Creative Imagery

Visualization/Imagery can bring about some of the effects of meditation. Meditation is about quieting the mind, and perhaps focusing. Imagery is about focus, also.

Okay, Okay, I know one big question is about that sound some make during meditation: OMMMM

Let's go ahead and get this question answered. OM is a Sanskrit word meant to give a voice to the vibration of the universe. In order for the mind-body to become more conscious, Om is used. It isn't the only word or noise you can make to achieve the same purpose, however. Om, and others help to center and clear the mind. Om is considered to be the root word of all sounds and of all manifest creation. How is that for an important word!

There are many different types of meditation, and choosing the best one for you depends on your interests, beliefs and what seems to fit you best. There is no set formula for this-it is totally up to you.

Some Types of Meditation

Breath Meditation (this was my starting point with meditation)

Mantra or Sound Meditation

Mandala/Visual Meditation

Movement Meditation, including T'ai Chi, QiGong, and Hatha Yoga

Classic Zen Buddhist Meditation

Classic Yoga Meditation

Meditation from other cultures, including Chinese, Native American, and Jewish Meditation

New Age Meditation

Prayer

Mindfulness Walk and Meditation

Medical Meditation, as used in stress-reduction clinics and for other medical problems

Guided Imagery

Creative Visualization (Meditation Visualizations)

Creativity Meditation, or art as Meditation (writing, drawing, sculpting, knitting, etc...)

There are many Meditative Practices for you to try out.

Meditation Visualizations and other meditation practices

See this lady? Hopefully she doesn't remind you of yourself!

Stress can kill. This is not an understatement.

Stressed out? Click here to learn more about Stress.

Image how much energy it takes to go through this. Take a good look, and then say to yourself: This is not what you want to feel when you learn to meditate! You want the learning experience and the actual practice of meditation to be peaceful and calm.

Meditation is more than stress relief, fitness ally, and preventive holistic medicine. Meditation can help when the damage has already gotten started. Meditation can help reverse certain aspects of heart disease, and show dramatic affect on insomnia, and chronic pain. Meditation helps us get back into balance, and balance is something many of us don't experience enough.

Meditation Visualizations and Focus

Two important keys to meditation are focus and paying attention. This is a challenge for most of us-being present, focused and listening. We have to listen to what we hear from within and from outside of us.

No matter what kind of meditation you practice, you will undoubtably focus your attention to avoid letting your thoughts ramble along and around. Most of us feel this way a lot of the time, and this is why meditation is so very helpful to us. It is also why meditation is so very challenging for us, also. It is difficult to learn how not to think or at least how to not pay attention to our thoughts. This concentrated thought is a key to consciousness. We want focused thoughts instead of random, chaotic thoughts.

There are tricks to the trade of focusing thoughts. Sounds such as the mantra (repeated word over and over), other sound, gaze at a candle flame, or a mandala, which is a circular, symmetrical designs that draw the eys toward the center and thus help to center the mind. Centering the mind IS the path to meditation.

Interesting thought: According to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Meditation, if you are feeling depressed, angry or particular negative, physical exercise such as a brisk walk might be a better fix for you. Anger, frustration, depression and negative thoughts actually weaken your body, so you would like to pass these feelings as soon as you can.

Meditation in your own sacred space can help us with these fine skills.
You can easily create a meditative space for yourself that can help you achieve the level of inner peace you yearn for.

Meditation Visualizations and Staying Young

Looking for the Fountain of Youth???

Reducing your stress, focusing your mind and giving yourself that bit of mind, body and spirit rest and peace, slows down the aging process and can even make your body appear younger than your chronical age. Isn't that reason enough to pull up a pillow, take a seat and give it a good try?

In his book with Dr. Oz, You Staying Young (and his other books about Real Age), Dr. Roizen, writes about how you can be younger than your chronilogical age. Some simple changes can really make a big difference.

Meditation Visualizations and the Simple Life

Do you have to give up your material stuff in order to live a meditative, peaceful, holistic life?

While some ascribe to a less cluttered life, and believe that the material world is an illusion. For most, the material world can actually bring some comfort-such as your home. The key here is to avoid attachment to anything that can be removed and/or replaced. People, of course, would NOT fall into this category. Things can be replaced, so you can enjoy them and want them, but you've got to not be attached to them. Meditation can help put some priority for what is really important (to you), and puts life into perspective. This helps you to cope with stress because pretty soon the less important issues will not cause you any impact.

There is a lot to be said for the simple life, though. when my husband and I first moved to Texas, we didn't have any furniture yet. It was on route from Hawaii. We purchased a couch and some other things that we didn't bring with us from HI, so we had places to sit, one lamp and no TV or computer. We went to the library to rent books and we spent time enjoying the peaceful, quiet time alone. We played with our dogs. It was really nice. Now I sit up with my laptop and so does he. The TV is on, also. We're looking forward to a more simple time, again.

Meditation Visualizations: Wellness and Happiness

Have you ever thought of wellness as a cycle powered by our choices? The cycle can move toward the positive and toward the negative. which will you choose?

Happiness and health: Is there a Connection?

You must know the answer is YES or I wouldn't have even asked. Seriously, the answer is a serious yes, and in fact, it might be one of the most important factors in determining health.

The phrase Don't worry, be Happy might really be good advice afterall. There is a lot of wonderful research and other information about Happiness and health for you to see. Be sure and take a look.

Love and Meditation Visualizations

Do you need more love in your life? Well, of course! Meditation helps you to accept yourself and love yourself. Depending on your philosophy, meditation can help you to see who you really are inside, show you as just one expression of nature and by helping you to feel empowered enough to control your own mind-body and avoid being so attached to your concept of it. To make it a bit more simple, think of the last time you were really kind to yourself. Tough? I hope not, but maybe.

Do the benefits sound wonderful enough for you to give 8-20 minutes of your day?

You betcha!. How about learning to carry that meditative spirit with you all day long? It is possible to stay focused, here and present and calm no matter what is going on around you. It is possible to be fully aware of what is going on around you-your body, your mind, your surroundings, the people around you, your tasks and the beauty that surrounds you. This will take some practice, but it is worth it. This state describes the term 'mindfulness.' Hey, even if you can manage a few hours of mindfulness a day, isn't that an improvement?

Walking Meditation is one type of meditation that many find kind of fun-especially if you aren't able to sit still for long like me. Walking meditation is just one of many Meditative Practices.

There are many different Meditative Practices. I suggest practicing one method daily for at least a month before trying another method.

Prayer Meditation might be just perfect for you!
How much do you know about it?
